Songs of Survival (SOS) is a Roots Revival project, under the artistic direction of Mehdi Aminian, that highlights the powerful role of music for Afghan refugees in coping with the trauma of displacement. It documents and explores songs and musical traditions carried on by people in exile. SOS encompasses fieldwork in refugee centers in Vienna and throughout Austria, collaborations with renowned Afghan musicians such as Dawood Pazhman, displaced Afghan women, and international artists from the fields of music, film, theater, and visual arts. At the heart of the project are the creation of a documentary film and a performance at the Odeon Theater, inspired by the film and its protagonists.
