Andrea Ancira

What does it mean to translate a book about illness? What happens when we learn the languages of our illnesses? Can they become a healing force? For “healing forces of the universe”, the sixth chapter of Post Covid Society, Andrea Ancira from Tumbalacasa Ediciones and Xaos Queer Care Club Vienna will share a contribution composed of letters addressed to Johanna Hedva during the process of translating the book “How to Tell When We Will Die” into Spanish, including her own correspondence and fragments of letters written by artists, writers, and cultural workers living with chronic conditions in Mexico. Through these letters, the contribution reflects on strategies for situating a translation project within a specific geography of bodies, languages, and experiences. It approaches translation as a practice of accompaniment, correspondence, and world-making, and explores the languages we inherit, invent, and borrow in order to narrate illness, vulnerability, and survival.

Adina Camhy

For Post Covid Society—chapter six, sound and multimedia artist Adina Camhy recalls their journey of recovery from Long Covid through sound. Camhy reflects on how living with the illness reshaped their perception of time — embracing new modes of listening, attuning to subtle nuances, and finding calm in extended loops, as well as strength in pacing and slowness. The sound collage interweaves field recordings from the karst landscape, captured during a 2023 residency in Trieste shortly after Camhy’s Covid infection, with sounds from Long Covid therapy sessions, minimalist passages played on a wooden church organ during the 2024 medienfrische residency in Tyrol and fragments of thought, articulated as spoken word. The sound performance opens a space for collective experience and exchange around chronic illness against the backdrop of an individualistic, accelerated, and performance-driven society. In listening together, as a temporary sonic community, it calls for mutual care and resistance to capitalism, patriarchy and ableism.
